Native to North America they are usually considered weeds unless they are one of the edible varieties, yet, they host several native bees who can only live on Physalis pollen, moving this weed in my mind a bit more to the good side of the ledger book. A deeper look at the plant finds other insects also only find their homes in some life stage of this genus. This wittle bee was on collected in the prairies of western Illinois by Jared Ruholl in his collaborative study of what amounts to prairie landscape residues.
