Some say he was the most gifted player the game has ever seen, and the only true genius that snooker has produced. Others say that he was a boorish addict who squandered his talent and his fortune. Maybe the more objective of us celebrate the former and accept the latter. It's true that he played snooker a bit like Argentina played football...they don't care if the other team scores three, they'll just have to score four. Higgins often showed utterly abominable positional play but didn't care because however outrageous the next shot was he could probably pot it. This enraged purists, but by God it made him exciting to watch. I was only a nipper when that glorious 82 final was played, but I remember it well. So yes, he was unruly, he was undisciplined and he was everything that a good consistent snooker shouldn't be. And he was awesome. Thanks for the memories.
