The first was from Helsinki Vantaa which was very unusual for me, because for perhaps the first time ever I saw the place absolutely rammed. One of the defining characteristics of HEL for me is that it is relaxed and spacious, but not today. It was booming. The flight was on time and pretty pleasant, though we had low cloud for almost all the flight and it was raining on arrival at Amsterdam. The homeward leg on the other hand was a bit nicer. We had a false start at Schiphol because the electric doors refused to open and we had to change gates. After that the flight was pretty much idyllic. We flew west the whole way into a beautiful sunset with lovely pink clouds below us. The skies cleared over Manchester so I got to see all the lovely sights that I could recognise on the approach over Manchester, St Helens, Fiddlers Ferry, Runcorn and then into Speke. The landing was smooth and well controlled in the expert hands of Captain Zimmerman, who Laura and I both agreed was a complete babe as well as an expert pilot. Sadly our bags didn't make it again, but we expected this and were prepared for it. Ah yes, the photo. This is the apron at Schiphol just before boarding. It wasn't this dark - that's an exposure effect - and you might be able to make out the 'T' tail of a Fokker 70 rising above a terminal building. I've had a lovely time, but it's good to be home. :) I made it home at last. :) Two flights today.
