The question in the title has been asked of me before now, but the sad and geeky truth is that the Red Arrows NEVER get boring. There's something magical about them each and every time. Interestingly, such are the ravages of the British weather, equipment failures and many other things, that in the half dozen or so times we've seen the Reds this year we've probably never seen exactly the same display twice. The event this time was the 2009 Southport Air Show. It was a brilliant show, and was sufficiently better organised and equipped than Southend to justify it not being a free show, yet cheap enough (£6.50 ordered on-line - under 5s go free) to be very affordable. This will, however, be my last Reds shot of the year - at least in theory. Their last public display is tomorrow for day two of the Southport show. So, with enormous respect and gratitude, I bid a fond farewell to Red 1, team leader Jas Hawker, whose tenure as team leader ends this year. It's been a thrilling ride, and well done sir! Laura has elected to do the airshow on BOTH days, and will enjoy another meet and greet with the Reds, so she gets to say thank you and goodbye in person. This photo is a slightly cropped photo of a high speed opposing pass by the synchro pair. I got amazingly lucky on the timing, but the focussing, exposure and other technicalities really aren't great. No matter, it stands as shot of the day. :) Yes, once again another weekend, ANOTHER Red Arrows display.
