Emerald Dragonfly / Hemicordulia Armstrongi / Male . Photographed at Lake Okaro New Zealand. This is a recently discovered New Zealand Dragonfly. It was previously mistaken for Hemicordia Australiae The difference was noticed when a normally aggressive Hemicordia Australiae males were observed ignoring what was thought to be other Hemicordia Australiae males . It was later discovered the ignored male dragonflies were Hemicordulia Armstrongi who have no interest in female Hemicordia Australiae dragonflies

$Field characters: Tot 45-49mm, Ab 31-42mm, HW 24-36mm.\nThe largest and darkest Calopteryx, with almost entirely metallic cobalt wings in males and transparently greenish to deep ebony wings in females. The flight is butterfly-like, but heavier than in C. splendens, and the species is more often seen in deep forest shade.\nOccurrence:\nLocally common, east to the Urals. Absent from large areas in the south, e.g. many major islands, and in Anatolia mainly limited to coastal areas; rare on the plateau.\nHabitat: \nPrefers cooler running waters than other Calopteryx, typically small, more shaded or at higher latitudes: small forest streams are the classic habitat. Where streams broaden or open up, C. virgo gives way to C. splendens.\nFlight Season: May to late September.\n\nThis Picture is made during a Long Weekend in the South of Belgium in June 2019. The beautiful Males Damselflies were displaying on floating Water Plants in the fast streaming River there.$

$Tot 32-39mm, Ab 23-27mm, Hw 30-33mm.\nThe largest whiteface and the prevailing one in many lowland and more eutrophic areas, although almost always very local. The conspicuous yellow spot on S7 identifies males and most females through binoculars.\nOccurrence:\nGenerally uncommon; populations are usually local and small. The most thermophilus Leucorrhinia, with a relative southern range.\nHabitat:\nGenerally inhabits less acidic and nutrient poor places than L. dubia and L. rubicunda, preferring marshy borders to bogs, forest lakes, fenlands, marshy ditches.\nVegetation is typically lush and varied, with both emergent and submerged species. The water is frequently mesotrophic and often colored brown due to peat.\nFlight Season:\nFrom early May to early August, with most records in late May and June.\n\nThis Picture is made in the Wieden (Overijssel, the Netherlands) in mid June of 2023.$

The black-winged dragonfly belongs to the family of dragonflies, a very primitive insect. It is distributed in Henan, Shandong, Anhui, Jiangsu, Fujian, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Guangxi, etc. The face is dark and hairy. Except for the slightly lighter base color of the front lip, the rest of the body and the top of the head are all blue-green or blue-brown with a metallic luster. The back of the head is brown, with hair on the rear edge. The prothorax is black. The front of the sternum is blue-green with thick hair, and the side of the sternum is dark green with sparse hair. Most of the wings are black with blue-green flashes, and a small part is transparent. The hind wings are black; the area from the base of the wing to the end of the wing knot and the end of the elbow vein of the forewing is black, with a small black spot at the end of the wing, and the rest is transparent and colorless. The legs are black. The abdomen and anal appendages are all black [1].
