Yellow-banded blister beetle (Mylabris phalerata) is a species of blister beetle, belonging to Meloidae family. Also known as Chinese blister beetle or banded blister beetle; it is used in traditional Chinese medicine. They are called blister beetle for their defensive secretion of a blistering agent, cantharidin. Many of its species are conspicuous, but some are aposematically colored, announcing their toxicity to would-be predators.
